Hope

Two years ago next month, hope came to me in the form of yellow tulips, from my dear friend, Kathy.  This year, hope comes in the form of this exquisite amaryllis, that first bloomed Thursday, January12.  On that day, my son, Travis, had his second brain surgery - this one in search of an infection that was causing him great pain.  Although random and weird and frightening, infection did show up in the piece of bone that had been removed, then put back, two years ago.  The surgeon removed all the glue and cement, and closed the scalp without putting in any covering.  After 6 weeks of antibiotics administered via and IV port in his arm, she will replace the bone with a piece of synthetic material.  She also biopsied everything, since she was already there.  No word on any of that, yet.  We hope he comes home Sunday or Monday.  There is always hope.

January 3, 2012

Yesterday I photographed flower blooms.  Today's photo is a bloom waiting to happen, an amaryllis that has been growing 5 weeks in my kitchen window.  I hope it blooms before we go to San Antonio!

I have photographed my begonias a number of times, but usually when they are blooming on my front porch.  This is January's bloom.  The begonia plant itself is from a plant given to my mother when my dad died.  I now have three pots full - a very prolific and happy plant.

It's 2012!

Happy New Year!  In the interest of becoming a better photographer, I have once again committed to trying a 365 project.  I don't know if I can maintain, but promise to try.  Since the next few days will be spent taking down and storing all of our Christmas decor, I will start with my favorite thing, the Christmas tree.  This is a 6 second exposure, using a tripod.
